AI Boxing Coach Apps Compared
We make Guardia, and it is on this list. If you box at home with only a phone, pick a camera coach: it counts your punches through the camera, with no sensors. Guardia names all six punches live, coaches in English or Spanish, and lets you try it before you pay. Boxer AI has the most ratings, and Braule is free. FightCamp counts with wrist sensors, from $299 plus $39 a month.
Key points
- Four kinds of app call themselves an AI boxing coach: camera coaches, video analysis apps, sensor trackers, and combo callers. Only a camera coach counts your punches live with nothing but a phone.
- Of the five camera coaches here, only Guardia names all six punches live, and its coach speaks English and Spanish.
- In the written reviews we read, the top complaint about the camera coaches is not accuracy. It is paying before you can try anything.
- For the other 11 apps, we read every App Store screenshot, 1,554 written reviews, and their sites and policies on 20 October 2026.

Prices are the in-app purchases on each US App Store page. When a page lists many plans, the table shows the main ones. "Languages" is the App Store list, which covers the screens. FightCamp's hardware prices are from its own shop, and Braule's price is from its terms.
How we checked the apps
We make Guardia, so it comes first in its group. We searched the US App Store and the web for "AI boxing coach", "boxing app", and "shadow boxing app", and kept the apps that train boxing technique on an iPhone. We left out games and plain round timers.
For each of the other 11 apps, on 20 October 2026, we:
- read its App Store page: the description, version history, in-app prices, languages, ratings, and App Privacy label;
- looked at every screenshot on its App Store page;
- read its written App Store reviews, mostly from the US, UK, Canada, and Australia: 1,554 in total, each tagged by what it praises or criticizes;
- read its website, terms, and privacy policy where they exist.
We have not installed or used those 11 apps. So this page says what each app shows and claims, and what its users report, not what we measured. The images are our captures of public App Store pages and the developers' own App Store screenshots. The facts about Guardia come from the current build. Found a wrong price or a missing app? Write to press@guardiaboxing.app and we will fix it.
Four kinds of "AI boxing coach"
- Camera coaches watch you through the phone camera while you box: Guardia, Boxer AI, Braule, BoxMaxxing, and Combo AI.
- Video analysis apps score a clip that you film or upload: BRAWLER, JAB AI, and JabMaxx. BRAWLER and JAB AI also have camera modes.
- Sensor trackers count with hardware: FightCamp with trackers on your wrists, PunchLab with the phone strapped to a bag or with its own trackers.
- Combo callers call the combos and run the rounds, but do not count your punches: Heavy Bag Pro and the Shadow Boxing Workout App.
Pick the kind first, then the app. A camera coach needs only a phone and 2 to 3 meters of floor, the same space as shadow boxing.
Camera coaches
Guardia
Prop your iPhone up 2 to 3 meters away and face it. A small neural network on the phone follows your body and names each punch as you throw it: jab, cross, lead and rear hook, lead and rear uppercut, and straights to the body. The coach calls each combo out loud, by name or by number, and the camera checks that you threw it. When a hand drops, the guard check tells you which one. After each round you get one fix.
Four things set it apart from the other apps on this page:
- You try it before you pay. The skill test and the 20-second punch sprint are free. Paying before you can try anything is the top complaint in the written reviews of Boxer AI, BRAWLER, and JAB AI.
- Six punches, named live. Braule names four: jab, cross, hook, and uppercut. Boxer AI shows punch types only in the report after the round.
- A coach in Spanish. The coach calls every combo in English or Spanish, in a woman's or a man's voice. Braule and Combo AI are English only.
- Video stays on the phone. There is no video upload and no account. Boxer AI's privacy policy says still frames may go to OpenAI.
It also has a program in four ranks, from your first jab to five-punch combos and six full rounds, free rounds you set up yourself, and a skill test that gets harder at every level. Slips and rolls are called inside the combos, and the camera checks that your head moved. The phone does the counting, and video never leaves it: what stays on the phone.
Boxer AI
You shadowbox in front of the camera. The live screen draws a skeleton over you and warns you when a hand drops. The punch breakdown (jab, cross, hook, uppercut) comes in a report after the session, with a score, XP, and a skill chart. Around that sit live 1v1 matches against other users, weekly rankings, AR pad drills, a community feed, and a food scanner. It launched in March 2026 and has 2,051 US ratings at 4.7 stars, the most of any camera coach here. Its last update was on 25 August 2026.
What users say: its 45 written reviews are harsher than its stars: 13 give 1 star. The most common complaint, in 11 of them, is that nothing works before you subscribe, and it runs from March to the newest reviews. Two early reviews say it got the punch types wrong. Eight praise the coaching.
Price: six in-app prices from $8.99 to $34.99. The store page does not say which is weekly, monthly, or yearly. Privacy: the App Store label says "Data Not Collected", while the developer's privacy policy, shared by six apps, says AI analysis may send compressed still frames to OpenAI.
Braule
Braule works the most like Guardia. It names each punch on screen as you throw it (jab, cross, hook, uppercut), counts them, and runs the analysis on the phone. A voice coach calls combos in 13 guided workouts and scores how well you follow them. An optional Video Coach analyzes clips you upload in the cloud. The live screen shows a kick counter, but its website says kick detection is still to come.
Price: free. It sells nothing on the App Store, and its terms say the paid tiers shown in the app are previews and no payment is collected. Watch out: it launched in July 2026, is English only, and has no ratings or written reviews in any store we checked.
BoxMaxxing
The app builds a 30-day camp from your answers. Each day you copy a 3D coach through timed rounds, with a slow-motion Teach mode for new punches and 1-minute drills. A live voice coach arrived in August 2026, and front-camera hit counting on supported iPhones in September 2026. None of its App Store screenshots shows the camera counting yet. Your punches add up in city and world leagues.
Price: $6.99 a week, $39.99 for 6 months, or $59.99 a year. You cannot train without a subscription. What users say: only 7 written reviews exist in the stores we checked, and 3 of them were surprised that it is paid.
Combo AI
You shadowbox into the camera for about 30 seconds and get a rating from 0 to 99 with a tier, built from 7 metrics such as power, speed, and footwork. It says pose detection runs on the phone. A 30-day program and 7 technique lessons follow.
Price: $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year. Its site says only the first session is free. Watch out: it has 1 rating on the US App Store, and its last update was on 1 August 2026.
Video analysis apps
BRAWLER
BRAWLER does the most of any app here. You upload a clip of shadow boxing, bag work, or sparring and get a score from 0 to 100 with marked mistakes. You can also shadowbox to prompts for a camera score, or throw as many punches as you can in 20 seconds on the 1-2 Counter, which counts left and right hands for a global leaderboard. Around that: Callout Mode at 4 speeds, 14 programs, an AI chat coach, a food tracker, a weight cut, and GPS runs. It launched in May 2026 and has 2,110 US ratings at 4.8 stars.
What users say: its 84 written reviews tell a different story from its stars: 38 give 1 star. The top complaints are a paywall before you can try anything (15), a "free trial" that charged at once (13), and missed or phantom punches (13). In the last 30 days the paywall and detection complaints went up. The 1-2 Counter is the mode reviewers praise most.
Price: $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year, with more test prices from $5.99 listed. Watch out: it has no website of its own, and its privacy policy link did not load on 20 October 2026.
JAB AI
You film a round of up to 90 seconds in the app, or upload one. It counts moves while you film, including kicks, knees, and elbows, then grades the round and turns it into a rank card. It also has 111 lessons that end in a camera test, front-camera pad games, a 3D fighter to level up, and a food log, across boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ, and wrestling. Its privacy policy says lessons and games process video on the phone, and uploaded rounds are analyzed in the cloud with Google Gemini.
What users say: 24 written reviews. 11 complain about the paywall or a Pro pop-up, 3 about accuracy, and 4 praise the lessons. A full rebuild, version 2.0, came out on 13 October 2026, so most reviews describe the old app. Price: from $4.99 a week to $79.99 a year.
JabMaxx
JabMaxx is built around a fight date. You film or import a round and get a score per technique, punch counts by type, and a "fix first" drill. It also plans a 4-week camp with a taper, a weight cut, and meals, and it can call your own combos out loud. Its App Store images show an illustrated boxer, not real footage. It is made by Titans Grip, which ranks JabMaxx first in its own best boxing app list.
Price: $7.99 a week, $49.99 a year, or $119.99 once. Every feature needs Pro, and since 19 October 2026 you can score one round before you pay. Watch out: 11 ratings and no written reviews in the US, UK, Canada, or Australia.
Sensor trackers
FightCamp
FightCamp counts with trackers that slide into sleeves on your wrists. They report punch count, speed, and output, a power score of its own, and sort punches into straights and power punches. You follow coach-led video classes, 3,000 and more, with a beginner program, and compare your output on leaderboards. It has 23,591 US ratings at 4.9 stars, by far the most of any app here.
Price: $299 for the console and trackers, or $699 and $899 for kits with a bag, plus a $39 monthly membership that every package needs. It ships to the US and Canada only, and you pay FightCamp directly, not through Apple. What users say: we read 342 written reviews. 80 praise the coaches and 70 the programs. The top complaints are needing the kit or membership (37) and crashes or connection problems (35).
PunchLab
Strap the phone to a punching bag and its motion sensors count your hits and estimate power. For shadow boxing, its site links to its own Bluetooth wrist trackers, sold on Amazon. You follow 300 and more coach-led audio workouts and join group classes ranked by hits. It does not use the camera and does not name punch types.
Price: $17.99 a month, $34.99 a quarter, or $79.99 a year. What users say: we read 337 written reviews. 62 praise the programs and 44 the coaching. Complaints are about bugs and music cut off (15), price (14), and a free tier that shrank (12). It is English only.
Combo callers
Heavy Bag Pro
Pick boxing, kickboxing, or Muay Thai, press Start, and a recorded human voice calls each combo while a 3D figure shows it on a bag. It works for shadow boxing too, and you can build your own workouts. It does not watch you or count anything. Its own FAQ tells beginners to learn the stance and punches first.
Price: $9.99 a month, $59.99 a year, or $129.99 once. The free tier has 3 workouts and a timer. What users say: we read 256 written reviews, with very few complaints. Most praise the combos (45) and the workouts (40).
Shadow Boxing Workout App
A voice calls punches by number, plus defense and footwork, and short videos filmed with coaches teach each move inside day-by-day programs. It needs no account and works offline. A front-camera mirror and recording mode lets you watch yourself, with the video saved on the phone, but it does not count or grade your punches.
Price: $14.99 a month or $79.99 a year, with a real free tier. What users say: we read 456 written reviews, the most of any app here. 63 praise it for beginners. The top complaints are features behind the paywall (18) and the voice (11), mostly from 2021 to 2023.
What the written reviews say
| App | Reviews | Top praise | Top complaint |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boxer AI | 45 | Coaching (8) | Paywall before trying (11) |
| BRAWLER | 84 | The 1-2 Counter | Paywall before trying (15), trial charged at once (13), missed punches (13) |
| JAB AI | 24 | Lessons (4) | Paywall or Pro pop-up (11) |
| BoxMaxxing | 7 | Too few to tell | Surprised that it is paid (3) |
| FightCamp | 342 | Coaches (80), programs (70) | Kit or membership needed (37), crashes or connection (35) |
| PunchLab | 337 | Programs (62), coaching (44) | Bugs and music cut off (15) |
| Heavy Bag Pro | 256 | Combos (45), workouts (40) | Paywall and price (8) |
| Shadow Boxing Workout App | 456 | Good for beginners (63) | Paywall (18), the voice (11) |
Braule, Combo AI, and JabMaxx have 0 to 2 written reviews, too few to judge. Two patterns stand out. The new camera coaches are judged less on accuracy than on paying before you can try anything. And the older apps that people love, FightCamp, PunchLab, and the Shadow Boxing Workout App, are praised for their coaches and programs, not for their technology.
How to choose
- You box at home with only a phone
- A camera coach. Guardia if you are a beginner or want a coach in Spanish. Braule if you want to try live punch naming for free. Boxer AI if you want matches against other users.
- You want feedback on filmed rounds or sparring
- BRAWLER, JAB AI, or JabMaxx. Check where your clip goes first.
- You want coach-led classes and sensor counts
- FightCamp, if the hardware and the membership fit your budget.
- You own a heavy bag
- PunchLab, or Heavy Bag Pro for combos without tracking.
- You want to pay once
- Heavy Bag Pro at $129.99, or JabMaxx at $119.99.
Four checks before you pay
- Count 20 punches yourself. Light, clothes, and distance change what a camera sees. Compare your count with the app's in your own room.
- Try the free part first. Some apps show you a score before the paywall, and some do not.
- Read the trial terms. A yearly plan with a trial charges the whole year when the trial ends. Set a reminder.
- Check where your video goes. Live analysis can run on the phone. An upload sends your clip away. Read the App Privacy section and the privacy policy.
Questions about AI boxing apps
Can a phone app count my punches without sensors?
Yes. Camera coaches such as Guardia, Braule, Boxer AI, and BoxMaxxing use the phone camera to see your punches. Stand the phone up 2 to 3 meters away, so the camera sees you from head to knees. Some name each punch live, and others show the punch types only in a report after the round.
Is camera punch counting accurate?
Test it in your own room before you pay. Guardia’s 20-second punch sprint and skill test are free, so you see your own count first. Some BRAWLER reviews report missed punches or punches that were never thrown, and early Boxer AI reviews report wrong punch types.
Which boxing app is good for a beginner at home?
A beginner needs three things: combos called out loud, a check on technique, and a plan. A camera coach with a voice coach gives all three, and Guardia lets you take its skill test free. If you only want the calls and lessons, the Shadow Boxing Workout App is the combo caller with the most beginner praise in its reviews, but it does not count your punches.
Is there an AI boxing coach that speaks Spanish?
Guardia has a coach voice in Spanish as well as English. Boxer AI, BoxMaxxing, BRAWLER, JAB AI, and Heavy Bag Pro list Spanish among their App Store languages. That list covers the screens, and the store pages do not say whether it covers a voice.
Do AI boxing apps upload my video?
It depends on the feature. Live camera features in Guardia, Braule, JAB AI, and Combo AI say they run on the phone. Video analysis features in BRAWLER, Braule, JAB AI, and JabMaxx work on clips you upload. The policies of Braule, JAB AI, and JabMaxx name the cloud AI services they use, and BRAWLER’s policy link did not load. Read the App Privacy section and the privacy policy before you film yourself.
Can an app replace a boxing coach?
For training on your own, an app covers the coach’s main jobs: it calls the combos, counts your punches, and catches a dropped hand. Before you spar, train at a club with a coach.
